Alnath is the name given by the astrological book Picatrix and was taken over by medieval astrologers, such as H.C.Agrippa, Marsilio Ficino or Giordano Bruno. It is actually the name of a fixed star, Beta Tauri, named also Il-Nath or El-Nath, which means “the one who thrusts” on arabic. The arabic name of this mansion is Al-Sharatain (or Sharatan), which means “the two signs”, after the name of the fixed star Beta Arietis in same language. Another name, used by coptic and greek astrologers, is Kuton, which means “The Fish of Horus”.
Arabian astrologers, as Abenragel, quoting the greek (Dorotheus) and hindu ones, mention that this mansion governs the medicines and a treatment start, animal caring and purchase, travels, purchase of new clothes, trees planting, nails and hair cutting, but is detrimental for marriages, partnerships and friendships.
Adjusting the medieval opinions to present, we can conclude that this lunar mansion is influencing doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists, travelers, travel agencies and their employees, drivers, pilots, farmers and animal breeders, but also those who are working in the cosmetics, hairdressing, barbering and manicure field.
From a magical point of view, the first mansion governs, according to Agrippa, the travels and disputes, and during this domain or mansion some people are making talismans, with the purpose of destroying their enemies. The arab mystic, Ibn Arabi, mentioned that this mansion is corresponding to the mystical denomination “First Intellect”, to the divine attribute “Holy Essence” and the correlated letter from the arabian kabbalah is Alif, together with Hamza. We recognise here the mental nature of creation, revealed in the first law of Kybalion: “Everything is mental”. The first house, the expression of the divine essence, from which all other things are originating, is assigned by the sound A, which even in the Aum mantra is holding a starting position. Once the mental nature of creation is understood, the man can get rid of contradictions and conflicts, however, as long as he is on Earth, incarnated and subdued to duality, he is condemned to be drawn by the contradictory and belligerent nature of mind, imposed by the first mansion.
The Sun in the First Mansion indicates a person who has a strong will, great authority, social importance, but also a lot of whims and contradictions. Big inner conflicts associated with his self-image, self-importance, and the way he is revealing his will. Particularly good leader abilities, but seen through the light of his own personality and own ways of decision making.
The Moon in the First Mansion exhibits a great destiny, an important person with a remarkable strong will, who is imposing insidiously his view on a subliminal level. Predisposed to the mental endowments, he is using them, unfortunately, to impose his own will to others, even in an unconscious way.
Mercury in the First Mansion shows a skillful nature, with a diplomatic temper, good in business, affairs or politics. He is often joining intellectual debates, disputes or conflicts and can impose his will through his mental abilities, manipulating the discussion mentally or linguistically in a desired direction, for achieving the most advantageous situation from his point of view.
Venus in the First Mansion designates a pleasant temper, attractive, with a great deal of sex appeal, distinguishable social and, most of all, erotic magnetism and also a big power of seduction. It also denotes strong artistic abilities, through which can achieve a great influence, but also a leaning toward jewelry, makeup and aesthetics. He wants to be always in the spotlight. He is whimsy in relationships, jealous, undecided, mistrustful, imposes a lot of things and establishes the rules in a couple, often at the expense of other’s freedom. He has a great confidence in own forces and strong-points, and uses them to exert his influence.
Mars in the First Mansion defines a irritable personality, predisposed to disputes, whimsy and violent in certain situations.
Jupiter in the First Mansion shows a natural authority, innate leader abilities, which is catching other ears and eyes through the simple way of being and speaking, without making any efforts in this way. He is a good advisor, trustworthy person, good-intended, with religious or spiritual dispositions.
Saturn in the First Mansion represents a lonely person, full with inner conflicts, which acts like his own pulpiteer. He imposes himself rules and harsh, draconian limits, which, to his own despair, he is also breaking. He imposes his will with patience, slowly and with a particular tenacity, having the achievement, and not the rapidity of achieving, as his final aim. It indicates a patient man, for confirmation of his point of view and achieving results.
Uranus in the First Mansion shows a very changing person, whimsy, easily bored by something old, with a strong fascination for something new and often engaged in tireless looking for something unknown. Hasty and unstable temper, idealistic but also very unorganized, he often leaves his work undone to focus on other projects. His will is mostly scattered, sometimes contradictory, doesn’t know precisely, what he wants, with exception for short terms.
Neptune in the First Mansion defines a person with an unstable will, who would rather impose his point of view through deeds upon other people and masses in generally, than upon singular individuals. Disturbed by his own practiced vices and recognizing the reason, why they are destructive, he continues practicing them. He is intuitive, subtle, a good and insidious manipulator, but has a low impact.
Pluto in the First Mansion designates a person with a lust for power, is fascinated by usage of power and will upon others and the way they comply to his demands. He is more the type of a ruler from shadows than a public leader, and prefers often to stay in anonymity, where he can keep his ability of control. He is acting often unforeseen, and after his own logic, which is hard for others to back it with normal reasoning, but is perfectly legit from his own view.
Lilith in the First Mansion represents a very big wish to entice and influence other people, with an outstanding persuasion, acting more in the way of finding individual weaknesses through vices and pleasures. He is in special delighted by controlling and manipulating the other’s will, if there is something to gain from them.
The North Node in the First Mansion shows the fact that the reason of life is to learn the proper use of will, in specially the connection of our will and the will of Divinity (that “Thy Will be done” from “the Lord’s Prayer”). The person must work upon the inner balance regarding any wishing, to meditate on long term effects of it on both him and other people, for a better understanding of the usage-of-will patterns.
The South Node in the First Mansion indicates a soul which in previous lives abused of the power upon other peoples will, so he could fulfill his own wishes. The violation of free will brings with itself a same measure karma, so other people can violate his own free will and ability of volition during his lifetime as often as needed to restore the balance of karmic due.
